thebeetus: (Beautiful Dirty Rich)
[personal profile] thebeetus
Name: Yukihiko Koyamada 「小山田由貴彦」
Age: 17
Birthday: 24th of May
Grade Average: B-

History: Before Yukihiko was born, his parents – specifically, his father was rich, and Yukihiko’s first few years saw him being spoiled rotten by both of them.

Unfortunately, due to something of a countrywide economic crisis in Yukihiko’s early years, his father suffered massive losses in his various investments and while they were never close to being destitute, they did have to convert part of the house into an apartment to get rent money, rid themselves of a lot of luxuries and his previously retired parents each had to get jobs. During this time, Yukihiko’s parents argued almost constantly and nearly broke up, terrifying the shit out of Yukihiko and usually resulting in him hiding in his room for a long time listening to music to drown out the noise. This is probably one of his earliest memories.

When the economy recovered, the family’s finances also did, and while they are not as rich as they previously were, they are pretty well off. They had a cook and cleaner, but now only have a housekeeper, Momoka, who comes once every couple of days.

Around two years ago, Yukihiko got a bad dose of the flu, followed by bronchitis, followed by appendicitis because he was just that unlucky, and was ill for a long time – even after he started to get better, he continued to lose weight, have bouts of nausea and dizziness and spent almost all his time hungry and thirsty until his parents, worried, took him to see a doctor, who diagnosed him with diabetes type I.

At this point, he was hospitalised for a couple of weeks – at around the time when he should have been studying for high school entrance exams, actually – being tested, trained in use of various equipment and surrounded by professionals telling him a hell of a lot of things he didn’t really get. He’s been on a strict diet ever since and has to test his blood sugar every few hours. He started out with a bottle of insulin and a syringe and needles on constant standby, but moved onto a pen, then very recently onto the very expensive insulin pump, something that made Yukihiko relieved in a very big way – in his mind there’s an odd connection between how well off they are and how well his parents get on.

His school knows about the diabetes, but his peers with the exception of a couple of friends all think he's just the sickliest guy in the universe. He misses school a couple of days a month for hospital and doctor appointments and he's exempt from PE most of the time.

Appearance:
Yukihiko never regained all of the weight he lost when he was 15, so he’s a very skinny, gangly boy, weighing in at 119lbs (54kg) at a height of 5’9’’ (176cm). He likes to wear bulky things that make him look bigger, but they tend to just swamp him. He doesn’t care enough about fashion to buy expensive clothes all the time, but he doesn’t exclusively buy cheap either. He loves suit jackets, plaid and hats, although probably not in the same outfit. Picture on the right is a good example of the crap he’ll deck himself out in. Minus the sunglasses.

He has quite bad skin and has once-a-month appointments with a dermatologist. This is probably one of the things he’s most insecure about.

His hair is very dark brown, wavy and usually quite messy. As of about five weeks before the program, he is considering shaving it all off – because a. he thinks it would be fun, b. hair grows back and c. his mother would have a heart attack and he frankly finds that hilarious.

(As of three weeks before, Chie Eda shaved it off for him. His mother did have a heart attack. It was hilarious.)

Also, he has pretty big feet and hands – he has pianist’s fingers, long and very thin.

Personality:
Yukihiko is a pretty laid back, casual guy. He has a permanent mindset of ‘never mind it, it’ll sort itself out later’ – in sort of a mixture of laid back indifference and youthful cockiness, he doesn’t believe anything can possibly go wrong in his life, ever.

He’s good at making acquaintances and giving people a good impression and coming off confident to people, but in truth he sticks to a few close friends – like the social version of failing at multitasking, he doesn’t think he could handle having too many good friends and focuses attention on the few he has.

Thanks to certain events in childhood, he hates discord, arguments, people being angry. He can actually deal with them being angry with him with little problem, but them being angry at anything else winds him up. He makes a great effort – for him – to cheer people up when they’re down and calm them down when they’re angry. He’s gotten to be a fairly good peacemaker, really.

He has the occasional burst of teenage angst, quite often over the fact that, you know, he’s possibly going to go blind and have his extremities amputated by age 40. And other things – acne, girls, existential trauma and the like.

He loves girls. :| Looking at them, talking to them and flirting with them, among other things. He doesn’t quite cross the border into being a total letch or anything, but he does love the ladies. o/

Yukihiko is an ~*~artist~*~. He loves drawing and wants to do product design – although it’s not something he’s actually properly thinking about how to go about doing, it’s just a, ‘man, that’d be cool’ kind of thing. He wants to design a car and then be the first to drive it.

Strengths:
    [Dexterous]
He handles pointy objects on a daily basis and this is what happens. He can handle small fiddly objects, untie knots, etc with ease. Also, he has amazing handwriting.

    [Handles Pressure Well]
When you’re a career procrastinator, you have to be able to get shit done at the last minute and get it done well. So Yuki can. He doesn’t fall apart under pressure – quite the opposite; he functions a lot better.

    [Peaceable]
He’s quite calm a lot of the time and prefers things to be calm around him. If he does panic, it’s a quiet, fairly unremarkable panic.

Weaknesses:
    [Diabetic]
A fairly simple one – Yukihiko has type I diabetes, which means his diet is very carefully controlled and he carries glucose pills/sweets wherever he goes in addition to having an insulin pump. Removal of either of these things will probably incapacitate him – worst case scenario, he could go into a coma.
He hasn’t had the disease long enough to have any of the major complications.

    [Indecisive]
Yukihiko can barely decide what to have for breakfast in the morning, anything more important immobilises him for minutes at a time. He’s much more well suited for other people making the decisions for him.

    [Lazy/Procrastinates]
If you want something done, Yukihiko is not the best person to ask about it. Because he might mean to do it, but then sitting around watching TV or calling someone will then seem more appealing and he won’t bother. He has been known to do his homework the morning it’s due.

    [Unfit]
He used to play football, but now he’s not allowed on the offchance something happens and the school foots the blame. He bikes to school and does basic stuff like swim and go to kickabouts in the park and whatever, but he doesn’t do very much where exercise in involved anymore, so he has little speed, strength or stamina.

Random facts:
- IM screenname is Yukida4649
- He is very much a morning person. Gets up at 7am daily and is disgustingly cheerful as of right then. His main form of exercise is biking to school.
- Loves loves loves Melty Kiss chocolate. The sweets he carries around in case of hypoglycaemia are almost always these.
- His favourite thing in the world is a dark blue beanie. He’s had it for years and he’s pretty lame about it. :|
- He’s left handed – however, he does calligraphy and handles some tools and utensils with his right hand. So selectively ambidextrous would be more accurate.

Notable Interests:

     [Art/Drawing]
His favourite things to draw are objects – buildings, cars (especially cars; he’s a petrol head), electronics, all that sort of thing. He doesn’t like drawing people, but he’s okay drawing animals, isn’t too keen on nature type stuff. Also, he only likes painting when it’s abstract type stuff.

     [Cooking]
He’s masculine, damn it. But, he likes cooking. There’s a certain science and creativity to it all at the same time and he likes that. Plus him cooking for himself means he controls his own diet and his parents can eat whatever they want.

     [Association Football]
He follows football religiously. Supports Kyoto Sanga, and has seen a couple of Away games of theirs. Played for his elementary and junior high school teams as a defender, although is not allowed to play for the team in high school. He plays a fair bit outside of school, though, and does weekly football nights at his house.

     [Calligraphy]
Yukihiko has good handwriting and is pretty good at calligraphy. He goes to the club a few days a week after school.

     [Part-time Job]
He works at a local art and crafts shop at weekends, more for something to do and for free art stuff than because he needs the money. The shop's owner, Mr Harata, also knows his parents, which got him the job pretty easily. He's good with customers and he's fairly knowledgeable about the products.

Overnight Bag: Diabetes control equipment (various controls/replacements/instructions for the insulin pump, insulin pen just in case, lancet, glucose pills/sweets), clothes, toiletries, wallet, cell phone, PSP

Family:

     [Father] – Takahiko Koyamada 「小山田貴彦」 (51)
Successful investor. Currently works for the Post Office Bank and works all hours. Makes a point of taking one day off a week to spend a little time with his family, but that’s usually the only time his family see him. Yukihiko doesn’t particularly mind the arrangement – he’s able to call his dad at work for help with his maths homework and to say hello, so he’s good.

     [Mother] – Miyu Koyamada 「小山田美由」 (47)
Housewife is inaccurate because that implies she works around the house – they have a housekeeper, so she doesn’t. Quit work when she got pregnant the first time and stayed home as of them. Usually not seen anywhere without her pet Maltese, Sachi. Used to be a model in her younger years, and don't you dare imply she looks anything less than one now. She and her son get on fairly well, but any attempts at discipline fall on mostly deaf ears. She despairs of her son’s attitude and fashion choices, but he really doesn’t care too much. In fact, he’ll go out of his way to shock her in that regard.

     [Brother] - Yoshikazu Koyamada 「小山田貴一」 (20)
Studying engineering at Waseda University in Tokyo. Was a kind, helpful brother to Yuki when he was growing up. Only not really - picked on him mercilessly. Yuki gave as good as he got as soon as he was old enough. (Including writing 'TOOL' on his forehead in permanent marker when he fell asleep on the sofa before cram school one time)

     [Grandmother] - Seiko Koyamada 「小山田征子」 (73)
Takahiko’s mother. Lives in the countryside on her own, but comes to visit for about a week every month or two. She’s a very slightly terrifying old lady who’s past caring what other people think of her. This has been known to lead to her making comments about Yukihiko’s appearance, attitude, etc and about his friends, too. He finds her funny, but he keeps her away from his friends nevertheless.

     [Tenant] - Rou Kado'oka 「門岡郎」 (28)
The Koyamada house is three storeys high - it used to be that they used all three themselves, but some years ago, for extra money, the top floor was converted into an independant flat. Rou, an intern at a local company, is the second tenant, and has been there for ten months. Yukihiko doesn't like him, but doesn't have to see him that much or speak to him at all.

Extra-Curricular Activities: Calligraphy

Classroom Behaviour:

Grades:
Art & Design: B+Sciences: C
Chinese: CHistory: B-
Japanese Language: BMathematics: B
Physical Education: N/APolitics: C+

(Yukihiko is exempt from PE; he takes part in some of the lighter exercises only)

Classroom Clique: If there’s a slacker clique, Yukihiko would be the leader… if he could be bothered.

Any Memorable Moments: Parents’ bad patch – diagnosis with diabetes/hospital – someone in the class finding out about the diabetes? - first girlfriend

Relations:
Yukihiko’s too laid back not to have at least neutral relations with nigh on everyone; he also likes to have the approval of people and can’t be bothered to hate them for the most, so he’s an easy guy to get along with.

Relations I’d like include: a couple of close friends (male or female) who’ll know Yukihiko’s diabetic purely so they can give him medicine in an emergency; someone who maybe finds out by accident; a first girlfriend?

MALE

[Koshirou Aizawa] (Roppie)
Their biffers are dating, which gives them good opportunity to talk when they're stuck being the third wheels. Yuki tends to be the one who initiates conversation, but they get along fairly well.

[Riku Ezaki]
Yuki ignores him. They don't run in the same circles AT ALL - Riku doesn't run in ANY circles - so they have no reason to ever interact.

[Makoto Kokubo] (Shaun)
A good friend of Yuki's. They play football together a lot and their both being big fans means they've always got something to do together with leagues and the class team and all that stuff. Their manly discussions include such topics as the aforementioned football, girls and being awesome.

[Takashi Saito] (Stanley)
Yuki's next door neighbour. Their mothers are friends, so they've known one another forever. When Yuki got sick and had to go on his ~special diet~, it was Takashi who made him think about just handling it himself. So really, he has the guy to thank for one of his semi-hobbies. While they don't have a lot in common, Yuki likes talking to the guy and just hanging out.

[Kaito Seidou] (Daviid)
Yuki's brah. They've been friends since they were little kids and got into football together, and they share a lot of the same interests, so they do a lot together. :O Also, Kaito's mother and Yuki's grandmother live in the same place, basically, so when both Kaito and Yuki Go Into The Countryside, shenanigans ensue.

[Masao Hayashi]
Yuki completely ignores his homosexuality - in the sense that if he has to acknowledge it, every DO NOT WANT instinct he has from 'that shit is illegal and I don't want anything to do with it' to 'I better not bend over anywhere near him' will kick in and he'll never go near the guy. When he ignores that, though, he gets on well with Masao - the guy's a great laugh and fun to be around.

[Masaru Hirasawa]
The two talk a lot about football, and when the guy's not being an asshole - at which point he avoids the guy, Yuki thinks he's hilarious.

FEMALE

[Anna Arakida]
DO NOT WANT. She looks kinda disgusting, does illegal crap (Yuki tends to think people who listen to illegal music are just attention whores), seems pretty damn boring to be around and is generally just not Yuki's cup of tea. He'd like her more if she looked like she washed her hair more than once a year.

[Katsue Itsuma] (David)
Yuki's quite amused by her and her attitude on things in general. He likes her just fine, but doesn't really hang out with her or anything. Katsue seems to be kind of offended at times by his sense of humour, which makes him feel bad, so he's gotten into the habit of joking - apologising - forgetting and making more jokes.

[Chie Eda] (Laurra)
Yuki's biffer. They've been friends since an incident with Yuki's hair and some safety scissors on the first day of nursery school, and there's probably no one he trusts and gets along with more. She's the only one he's told about his diabeetus since it came out, and the two have never seriously argued. His mother doesn't like her, but whatever.

[Etsu Oinuma] (Rob II)
They got on perfectly fine as little kids, then when Yuki was about 9, she stopped talking to him for zero reason, and has never spoken to him since, despite Yuki attempting to be friendly. So now he pretty much just thinks she's a bitch and ignores her back. The fact that they have mutual friends makes things pretty awkward, but that doesn't affect Etsu's attitude, so it doesn't affect Yuki's either.

[Masumi Okamoto]
Yuki doesn't pay all that much attention to her - she seems to be far more interested in things he couldn't care less about than he can deal with, and is pretty boring in any case.

[Erika Sekimoto]
Thinks she's really cute, and doesn't get why anyone would want to bully her. He doesn't stand up for her because he's not exactly a knight in shining armour himself or anything, but he makes a point of asking her to hang out, and will go over to talk to her if it looks like someone - Ayane, etc - is about to cause trouble.

[Satsuki Takada]
Yuki's first ever girlfriend omg. She wouldn't let him go any further than making out with her, at which point Yuki decided to just break up with her (in that typical 'it's not you it's me' way). She saw straight through that and a teenage spat ensued. Both their respective attitudes mean that they've regained a friendly relationship in the time since, but they're not exactly bffs or anything close to that.

[Aya Nishiyama] (Rianne)
Another one of Yuki's football buddies. The two get on great generally, but Yuki finds Aya's attitude and temper both tiring and really uncomfortable. Directed at him, he can answer back and either shut her up or deal with the argument that ensues. At other people, he's had to get adept at either calming her down or getting out of her way.

[Shigeru Miyazaki]
They don't tend to run in the same circles - he does think her preoccupation with Shota is a little weird and wonders why the hell she can't just gtf over her gender issues, but he doesn't have any problem with her.

[Haruka Yoshida]
Yuki thinks she's gorgeous, negl. And he didn't expect to have a thing for nerd chicks, but he kinda does, especially when they're cute nerd chicks. Kept her nudes saved on his computer for two days before deleting them out of guilt. He makes a big effort to talk to her and get her to hang out - which she usually does, and he keeps thinking about asking her out, but hasn't actually got the balls to do it.
